Time For a Change

Some times you just need to go with what life hands you. Yesterday I ended up talking with a few fellow bloggers through email. Part of the conversation was about diet and exercise. They also each provided me with a link to a website for additional information or service. Now this was not solicited but they both, on their own, did this for me.

I am of the belief that things happen for a reason. I once was unjustly fired from a job (at least I think it was unjustly) but none the less, here I was without a job. It was devastating to me and I took probably two years to fully recover from this. In the end, however, it was a dead end job. It was working on dead end technology. They really did not pay attention to me what things they needed to do to improve things. There was not much of anything I could walk away from that job and add to a resume that would help me land another job. The one good thing that came from that job was a few contacts that eventually help me land my next job. In this case I think getting fired helped me move my career along.

So here I am being presented with some very good information. And each person, in their own way, provided me with a little extra pep that I needed to get the much needed diet and exercise going. I think I needed to take advantage of this and get things going. So it would appear New Years will be coming early for me as well this year.

So to Lara and SignGurl, thank you so much my friends. You both have provided me with an inspiration. The rest is up to me.

Look, mum. All you've got to do is eat less and take a bit of exercise. –Absolutely Fabulous

Six Things

Stolen from Kristen when she was not looking

Six Things About Myself

I have no problem with food touching each other but orange juice and milk, ewwww. If I had orange juice in one cup, even if that cup has been completely rinsed out, I can not drink milk in that came cup.

I love most forms of music, just some more than others. I do not, however, think Rap is music.

I always try to look for the good in people and in situations.

I like David Letterman over Jay Leno. However I like Conan O’Brien over both of them with Johnny Carson my all time favorite late night TV host ever. Toward the end I really started to enjoy Arsenio Hall too. Yes I used to stay up late a lot.

I love science fiction, good, bad, or ugly. My poor sister had to put up with me watching the original Star Trek over and over again. Surprisingly she still speaks to me.

I love animals possibly even more than people. Maybe that is why I have always loved Snoopy and Woodstock from the Peanuts which is an obsession with me.

Quicky: I hate to dance because I always feel so self conscious. I just know everyone is looking and laughing.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't on the verge of doing snoopy dances. –Secret Window

Being Used?

I love to lend a hand to people I know when possible. You need a hand moving, I can do that. Need some help with your computer… well I do not know everything but I will do my best. Need to borrow a tool, what ever I have you can borrow if you treat it well. But this message is a little different.

Do you have those friends where every time you see them they are constantly asking you to do something for them? I have one of the friends. Every time I come over his house he has at least something he wants to be done on the computer. Now that might be OK but this is an old enough machine that every time you touch it the computer breaks. I spend 4 hours minimum trying to get things working again. I really do not want to touch his machine again. I really feel like all that is happening is I am being used.

Now up to this point you may have agreed with me. You may have even said that sounds familiar but now here is where I lose you I bet. My friend is blind. Does that make a difference? Well to me it does not. We have been friends for ¾ of our life so I am used to treating him just like anyone else as it should be. But blind or not blind I do not think it is right for someone to use someone else period.

I will try and put up a much more pleasant post before tonight since I am back from Thanksgiving now. I hope everyone had a good time. I have only read a couple of people's posts. I think I got some catching up to do.

Concerning your Fears

Yep, that is what I did today. I once again had the day off. I had good intentions to work on my garage some more but that just was not in the cards for me. Instead I worked on my fears. Lets see how that came about, shall we.

I woke up early to post something on the blog. Then I wrote an email to a few bloggers and checked out a few bloggs and then I went to try and take a short little nap. Wrong, the doorbell range and it was the postal lady with a package. Well I checked out a few things online and went out for breakfast.

On my way home I decided to stop at this one rental place near where I was. Sorry, no scaffolding but their store in Okemos had some. So I came home, took out some seats, grabbed some bungies just in case and called to make sure I could pick up the two sets. They said come on down.

When I got it home and set up here is what it looked like in place.

This is after I had fixed the siding that was broken and now missing up toward the top. You will notice it looks darker. Also notice the electric, an added bonus. Anyway despite my fear of heights I managed to fix the siding, finally. I disassembled the siding and stored it because once I get back from celebrating Thanksgiving and visiting with the family I have something to hang from the ceiling in the garage that will be a lot easier with the scaffolding.

Now I may not be over my fear of heights and I am sure people that do not have fear of heights think this is silly how I am not all that far off the ground but it was a big deal for me.

Tony had a link to a site that is suppose to match you up with celebrates. I must say his match was pretty hot. Mine, well they give you one main one and about 9 other possibilities. By the way if you are interested in the same sex it can accommodate you there too. Anyway one of my matches was Sarah Jessica Parker. That could work. It had a few others that were ok but then it had Calista Flockhart. No way! Now I am starting to doubt this thing.

So who was my main match? Bonnie Blair.

I love Bonnie Blair. I have ever since I found out who she was. I happen to think she is pretty but so much more important she seems to be a super person. That is so important to me. The only thing wrong with her??? She is married. Oh well. I did find out she was married, has two kids and live in Park City, Utah. That is so perfect for a pair of winter Olympic athletes.

If you would like to try this out yourself, try this link: http://www.whatceleb.com/

There's no need to fear, underdog is here --The Underdog Show

Wasn't that a Party?

Could have been the whiskey, might have been the gin.
Could have been three or four six-packs,
I don't know, but look at the mess I'm in,
My head is like a football, I think I'm gonna die,
Tell me, me oh me oh my,
Wasn't that a party?

Thank you Tom Paxton for Wasn’t that a Party. It so fits in here.

First I had a Saturday Photo Hunt entry to do. Plush, what the heck is plush anyway. So off to the store to get something plush but not just anything. It had to be a Snoopy. I love Snoopy. The only other thing it could have been was a Woodstock but I could not find one of those.

My Saturday was of course filled with the Michigan vs Ohio State football great rivalry. Here you see me and my partners in crime. What a great game despite the fact that Ohio was the better team and won. Guess what, there is always next year and chances are good Michigan will win then when Ohio comes up to the big house. I will always love this game, always. Thank you Woody and Bo for making this rivalry into what it is today.

That takes us to my Sunday. When I was younger I would have bounced back much better but not now. I must have had 6 or 7 22 ounce beers on Saturday. I was not drinking water with the beer. I was a mess on Sunday.

Now I did not have a headache but I felt terrible all day. I say my partner in crime, Crabcake, was in about the same shape. Now we have never met but we have bonded, Now I am not trying to take Milkmaid’s place. Actually I am hopping she will not mind letting me tag along. I think the two of them could be trouble and I could just fit right in. Anyway it sounds like her celebration down where she lives was a wild one too. Good, she needed that.

Now let me end this on a fun note. Here are three more pictures from Silver Bells. Do you remember the Grinch that Stole Christmas? Well the Lansing Fire Department did up a fire engine like the sled the Grinch rode in. Of course up front we had Max (I think) pulling this impossibly big sled.

And then in back we had the sled and the Grinch.

I was so enjoying the way they decorated that I first was unable to get a good picture of the Grinch and second I stopped taking pictures. The sled looked great and in back they were releasing smoke periodically and they had two what looked like bullet heaters running full boar with flames shooting out the end. Why oh why did I not get a picture of that? They did such a wonderful job.

So there you have it, my weekend. I hope you have a nice weekend too.

I am getting to old for this shit –Stripes

My oh My What a Weekend I Had

I suppose it could have been much more exciting but for me this is like 2 months of excitement packed into a few days. Now let me apologize to anyone with a slow Internet connection as this is going to contain a lot of photos. Also since there are so many photos (18 I believe) I am going to split this into two posts. So, shall we begin?

Friday started out with news about my favorite football coach having pass on. I will not go into that here but here it so Mr Schembechler. Friday evening was Silver Bells in Lansing which is basically a big electric light parade, tree lighting and fireworks with lots of other activities on top of that. So here we have one of the more fun lit up vehicles.

Of course what parade would be complete without bands and they were lit up to. I have this fixation with clarinets and flutes because of my high school band days so....

And here we have another perfect float for the Christmas theme.

And of course what Christmas type parade would be complete without Santa Claus?

How about a firework picture and a tree picture. Of course this being held in the Capitol city we had to get the dome in the picture.

Update: For anyone interested, here is the local newspaper articale about it. It had a much better picture of the fireworks. See what you can do when you know wjhat you are doing.

That takes care of part one. On to part two...

Happy Anniversary to Me

I was going to make a big deal of this but somehow it just does not feel right. No balloons, no pictures, no reminiscing.

1 year ago I posted my first blog post. Since that time I have posted 250 posts. In that time I have had a small group of people come visit, that is fine with me. When I first posted I could not even imagine anyone ever visiting.

In that last year I have managed to meet several in real life and that has been wonderful. I have also made some online friends that are every bit as good of friends as people I know in real life. I even meet someone online I refer to as my Sis as we hit it off right away and we both kind of had that feeling. I find that I want to go online and see what my friends are up to.

At the same time I became addicted to blogging and had to back off a little. I was spending all my time online and ignoring what I should have been doing.

I learned a lot too. I go into things very naive. Since I am open and I do not try to pretend I am not someone that I am not, I kind of thought others were like that as well. Well surprise, surprise that is not the case. Yes there are those that don't pretend they are not who they are but there are also those that are not at all what they appear. I had my eyes opened wide as I listed into some conversations at the Michigan Blogger meet up.

Well I hope to be around for some time to come if only I can figure out things to write about. I also hope to have a chance to meet my Sis sometime. I just know it will be a riot. I also look forward to getting to know the people I have already meet even better.

For now I think it is time to get out and about and see what everyone is up to out there.

This weeks theme is PLUSH.

What, may I ask, is PLUSH? I checked the dictionary.

Main Entry: 1plush
Pronunciation: 'pl&sh
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle French peluche

:
a fabric with an even pile longer and less dense than velvet pile

OK, so it is fancy fabric. I still don't have that. I don't have time for this today on Michigan vs Ohio State game day. Time for a trip to the store...

Here we have my latest peanuts aqaisistion. I love peanuts, always have. Snoopy has been my fave character forever.

Thanks a lot by the way. Now I have TWO snoopy plush stuffies (you can see both in the pictures above) , some Peanuts Christmas ornaments, and Peanuts Christmas cards. Oh by the way, if I am likely to send you a card, pretend I did not mention that, mk.

The above pictures are of my cairo cabinet. It has 5 shelves, 4 are dedicated to peanuts, the top one has special moments like my Redwings, curling and stuff from my Brother's and Sister's weddings. I just temporarily stuffed the plush into the cabinet. I need to redo it again. Also you may notice one of the porcelain characters down. That would be Sally, the lush. I bet you did not know that about her. I need to get around to glueing that sometime.

For those in the United States Don't forget to catch A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving (again, I know) on ABC on Monday at 8:00 PM EST. I hope everyone in the United States has a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving. Don't eat to much. For everyone else have a great week and see everyone on the next hunt.

RIP Bo Schembechler

Hard to believe that Bo died on the eve of the big Michigan / Ohio game. Bo was the coach when I became a Michigan fan. I always think him when I think University of Michigan football.

RIP Mr Schembechler.

Smile

How about something a little fun...

I was at the golf store comparing different kinds
of golf balls. I was unhappy with the women's type
I had been using. After browsing for several
minutes, I was approached by one of the good-
looking gentlemen who works at the store. He asked
if he could help me.

Without thinking, I looked at him and said, "I
think I like playing with men's balls."

My sister and I were at the mall and passed by a
store that sold a variety of candy and nuts. As we
were looking at the display case, the boy behind
the counter asked if we needed any help. I replied,
"No, I'm just looking at your nuts."

My sister started to laugh hysterically, the boy
grinned, and I turned beet-red and walked away. To
this day, my sister has never let me forget.

Have you ever asked your child a question too many
times? My three-year-old son had a lot of problems
with potty training and I was on him constantly.

One day we stopped at Taco Bell for a quick lunch
in between errands. It was very busy, with a full
dining room. While enjoying my taco, I smelled something funny, so of
course I checked my seven-month-old daughter, and she was clean.

Then I realized that Danny had not asked to go
potty in a while, so I asked him if he needed to
go, and he said, "No."

I kept thinking, "Oh Lord, that child has had an
accident, and I don't have any clothes with me."
Then I said, "Danny, are you SURE you didn't have an
accident?"

"No," he replied. I just KNEW that he must have
had an accident, because the smell was getting
worse.
Soooooo, I asked one more time, "Danny, did you
have an accident?"

This time he jumped up, yanked down his pants,
bent over and spread his cheeks and yelled. "SEE
MOM, IT'S JUST FARTS!!"

While 30 people nearly choked to death on their
tacos laughing, he calmly pulled up his pants and
sat down.

An old couple made me feel better by thanking me
for the best laugh they'd ever had!

This had most of the state of Michigan laughing
for 2 days and a very embarrassed female news anchor
who will, in the future, likely think before she speaks.

What happens when you predict snow but don't get
any? A true story. We had a female news anchor who,
the day after it was supposed to have snowed and didn't, turned to the
weatherman and asked: "So
Bob, where's that 8 inches you promised me last
night?"

Not only did HE have to leave the set, but half
the crew did too!

While on a flight from New York , the Stewardess
was busy passing out peanuts and cokes to everyone.
There were about sixteen flights lined up waiting to
get clearance to take off. Then the other Stewardess
got a message from the Pilot that the tower said
the wind had changed 180 degrees and they were first
in line to take off, and to have everyone buckle up.

Without thinking she just announced "Please buckle
up, grab your drinks and hold your nuts, we're
taking off!". No one saw her for the rest of the flight to Houston, and
all the other Stewardesses were laughing all the way and so were half
of the passengers.

One more day to the classic showdown, #1 Ohio State University vs #2 Michigan University.

Kowabunga Dude

I had the day off yesterday and made a lot of headway on my garage. At last the wall is repaired. I still have plenty of cleaning to do but at least the hard part is done.

This morning before I got anything else done I put this bar out at the curb and put a free sign on it. Part way through the day I heard a lot of racket coming from the lawn. What the h*ll was that? It turns out it was a couple of skateboarders. They had taken the counter top off the bar and were trying it out to see if they could use it as a jump. They were excited as it looked like it was going to work out for them perfectly.

Now at first I really wanted to chase them off. I mean with the top gone the chance of me getting rid of the rest of the bar is slim but still, I did say FREE. Heck, I look at it I made some ones day. Last check the bar was still there. I probably will need to cut it up and hall it away. Oh well, at least I am finally getting rid of it so I can organize the garage.

Oh I pulled a Tim Allen today while working on the wall. Now I managed to skin a knuckle and was a real klutz but that was not the Tool Time moment. I had a stud that was not fitting into place properly so what did I do? I picked up a big hammer and wacked it.

WacK, WACK, wacK

and then I missed the board and hit myself in the mouth. What a fool. Just call me Tim. Now I have a small cut on the inside and outside of my lower lip and I have a nice fat lip. I think it has already went down some. Thank goodness, it looks like I went a few rounds with someone and lost.

I have today off also but I think I will try doing something a little more safe. Maybe I will even take in a movie. I hear Borat is suppose to be irreverent and a riot.

Oh and one last thing in the form of a PSA. This morning I heard that today over hear in the United States it is the Great American Smokeout.

My country send me to United States to make movie-film. Please, come and see my film. If it not success, I will be execute. --Borat

Big Times

Yesterday was a big day around here. Well besides being Split Pea Soup day or week which is big in itself... yesterday the area I live it started production of two vehicles in a new GM plant that was built here. The first for sale automobiles were produced yesterday. A silver-toned GMC Acadia was first off the line followed by a white Saturn Outlook. Now the reason this was big is we have had several GM plants close down over the last couple of years. If it was not for the promise of this new plant it would have been real devastating.

Today is another big day up here in Michigan. It is opening day of firearm deer hunting season. It lasts from November 15 to November 30. It is huge here. You notice a lack of people at work today as they are out in the woods waiting for dawn. It has been forever since I joined the hunt, probably back in high school. I always had problems because we had an event called Band-A-Rama. Our director was very hard on this. We had to be present for the event. It really made it come down to will you deer hunt or be in the band performance. The performance was always fun to be in. Basically it was a marching band performance inside in a gymnasium. Of course there was much more than that. There was lots of skits and small groups performing. It was an excellent show but then I am pretty biased about it.

Anyway I was never lucky in hunting. The one time I actually saw a deer up close I must have fell asleep as all of a sudden there was a deer not more than 25 feet in front of me. The adrenalin started pumping as I slowly work the rifle up. Many shots later the deer was long gone and I just sat there and wondered how I could have missed it. I suspect what happened is deep down I really did not want to shoot a deer. The thought of what came next was not pleasant. I like animals so this just seemed so against my feelings. Anyway I have not been hunting for years but still this is a huge draw every year here.

A few more days and Silver Bells will be here. I plan to be there so I think I should have a few pictures. If you are ever curious you can check out a post the SignGurl did almost a year ago about last years Silver Bell. From what I remember it was pretty nice. It is how I first ran into SignGurl online.

Well off to enjoy my day off. No, not for deer hunting but just to get some work done around the house. Happy hump day.

I like your style, hombre, but this is no laughing matter. Assault on a police officer, theft of police property, illegal possession of a firearm, five counts of attempted murder. That comes to $29.40. Cash, check or credit card. --Farscape

Loosen Up, Lighten Up Day

I heard this on the radio this morning while I was pondering what to write about today. It turns out that today is Loosen Up, Lighten Up Day. Apparently they have a day for everything now.

When I was trying to look this up I found a site that went a little further and today was also National American Teddy Bear Day and National Young Reader’s Day. Teddy Bear, now that is cute. National Young Reader's Day, what a great thing to encourage. But what is this loosen up, lighten up day? All I could seem to find was this one sentence in a newspaper that said "We are asked to recognize the joy and therapy of laughter. Perhaps we should do that every day."

Oh man, I could have used this yesterday. Normally my phone does not ring very much but not yesterday. From the moment I showed up to work it just would not quit. My partner in crime was laughing at me. See we both support the same thing at work and usually he is the one getting all the phone calls but not yesterday. Finally things slowed down when it was time to go home.

Gee I wonder what would happen if I were to tell the boss or the bosses boss to loosen up? At least today I can say hey it's a celebration, really it is. Somehow I don't think that would be a good idea.

Oh no, I best think about cutting this short. I forgot, for as bad as yesterday was for me, the person I was dealing with at the other end of the phone during most of it was having an even worse day. At one point she answered the phone, "Welcome to my Day from Hell." That is so unlike her. I think I need to make a stop and pick up a treat for them.

On a closing note, the one site I found also said that this Pursuit of Happiness Week and Split Pea Soup week. I want and day... I wan't it.

Flu Shots

I know this is kind of controversial. Some people really believe in a flu shot. Other either think they are ineffective or they are a bad thing and just usually get you sick.

Myself I have been getting vaccinated when ever it was available and I was feeling well. Luckily that is most of the time. Now does it make a difference? I am not sure but I really believe if it does not stop you from getting the flu, it at least makes it so you do not get the flu as bad. Personally I do it since I think it does make a difference and work usually offers it for free. I would guess it is an effort to keep the workforce a little more healthy. Well they offer us the flu shot on Tuesday and I will be there in line as I have managed to stay healthy.

So how about you... any thoughts about the flu shorts that are usually available throughout the United States to people? Do you partake? Oh and pardon my ignorance as I really do not know if this same thing is offered in Canada, Mexico, over seas or where ever.

You know that little shot you gave me for the flu? --M*A*S*H

Indian Summer?

Could it be. Are we in the middle of Indian Summer? Well up here in Michigan I think that is exactly what is happening. We have been warmer the last few days and today we will actually see temperatures in the low to mid 60s. Now it has been wet to a bit and somewhat cloudy but still, the temperatures. Yep, I think it is Indian Summer for sure.

Well I think I need to go enjoy the last little bit of good weather.

In case you are interested, here is a link to the wikipedea article about Indian Summer.

He Lost

Well my friend lost his election last night. He ended up with 44 percent of the vote. Considering he was running as a Republican and considering how yesterday was a big Democratic wave it is not surprising. It is a shame, I think he would have severed well as county commssioner.

He and his wife dragged me along to the local Republican meeting spot. From the very beginning it was somewhat somber. Some of the first returns they received was from a very conservative district and they did not look good. One of the people there very quietly said to my friend that it was going to be a blood bath tonight.

Well there was very little excitement last night. There were a lot of seriously depressed people and that was the people that were taking it well. There were a few winners among the crew but not many.

While Jim was mingling I found out why I was there. Well partially I wanted to be there for my friend but also I was able to catch up with his wife so she was not a political widow just kind of hanging out.

Well yesterday was certainly interesting. It would appear that what they are saying happened yesterday was not that the Democrats had this big sweep. What happened was a bunch of center minded Democrats were winning yesterday. I have always thought that this is where things belong, not so hung up on party but more emphasis on the people. It should be interesting to see how the next 2 to 4 years play out.

Yesterday was kind of nice for me. My prior job I did a lot of data slinging. We had many things the company did but one thing we were known for was our political polling and exit polling. They were good, they just knew the state that well. Election day was always so exciting. So yesterday I got to relive a little of that and satisfy some of my inner geek even though no one felt much like celebrating.

It is amazing how big the turnout was. People were really turning out and voicing their opinion. The process just might have a chance of working but only time will tell. I sure hope reality does not set in and I am all disappointed again.

Happy hump day.

Election Day Stuff

DID YOU???!!!???

Today I was once again reminded that life is short. I decided to take advantage of my day off and go out to breakfast.

Side issue, I over heard that there was a change in election procedures today. They are anticipating a lot of voters this time, more than normal for a mid term election. To alleviate the anticipated crowd they have decided to allow Republicans to vote today and ask Democrats to wait until tomorrow to vote. I take it the owner of the restaurant who said this is Republican.

Anyway, I was on my way back from a restaurant. I was in a hurry to get home as that coffee was working a real number on me when all of a sudden I came up on a traffic backup. This was interesting as I was only 2 to 3 miles from home. Anyway here I am planning an alternate route, a super computer could not be more efficient (I had to go). I finally picked my alternate. Through a Red Robbins parking lot, segway into a Krogers parking lot, onto the road heading to the problem area and then short cut through a strip mall parking lot and I am home free.

Executing my master plan I finally saw what was wrong. The intersection was filled with fire trucks, rescue vehicles, a few polices cars and a very damaged car. Now I think this person probably survived but here was this person, probably heading to the grocery store, and most likely they were T-Boned by someone running a red light which brings us to the next thing.

Here in mid Michigan, probably all throughout Michigan we have a big problem. People are constantly running red lights. I do not mean every now and then. I would guess that I rarely see a light go by without someone running a red light, most often it is "pink" but still they ran a red light. So how about you? Do you see very many people running a red light in your neck of the woods?

I saw something that made me real mad. This is not the only time I have seen in. So far I have only seen the Democrats do it but I would imagine the Republicans are just as guilty. What I saw was a Republican Governor sign sandwiched between two Democrat Governor signs (see bellow). The signs were 1 foot away from the center sign. I so wanted to stop and pull the two Democrat signs and leave them on the ground. Now let me explain something. If this had been reversed I would have been equally as upset and wanted to pull the two Republican signs. We do not need extreme politics here. Extreme politics are for the PARTY ONLY, not for anything else. Damn that makes me so angry. What about you and I the people?

I think I should go take some Valium and lay down for a little while. I hope you exercised your right to vote or will be voting today.

Look at this, 17 percent of the vote officially tabulated right now. Based on those numbers as well as CNN exit poll numbers, CNN is now ready to project a winner in this race. John Kerry. --CNN Presents

Fun While You Travel

I heard something on the radio yesterday. It would appear that some of the major airports such as Colorado and Detroit and more and some of the smaller airports are trying something different. They will be bring in various forms of entertainment and will be in the gate areas. The will do different things in different places like jokes, wandering minstrals, etc.

Now is that not interesting. Back in the days I used to a member of the jet set, I barely made it in time to run up to the plane. I was always nervious when I did that. Now a days however you need to be there so much earlier even if you are only traveling to the next state over. So maybe this entertainment is a good thing. I wounder if they can do one act plays. If so maybe I will go visit LaGuardia and see if they have any off broadway hits. Maybe I will even allow myself to be bumped.

Saturday's Photo Scavengar Hunt - Window(s)

This weeks theme is Window(s).

Last week I posted some pictures of a bank safe that I had the fortune to have an oportunity to take pictures of. At the same time I wondered around the former bank and found some other interesting things to take pictures of.

Hear we have a few pictures of a two way window or, as people commonly call it a two way glass.

The first picture is from inside looking out. You can see the lights and if you look real hard you can make out a few objects. This is a very poor picture. If I could have played with it a little more and not used the flash it would have looked much better.

The next picture is what you saw from the outside looking in. If I would not have stood off to the side you would have seen a picture of me.

So neat, those two way windows really do work. I hope you enjoyed my slight twist on the theme.

Thank you for visiting and best wishes to you for a good weekend.

Paradise

That does it! I am off to the island this evening. I decided I have been keeping busy enough, it is time for a treat. I will be visiting Cheseburger in Paradise.

I have been there once before and it is an interesting place. Little island girls zipping around the place. Flozen drinks (yumm) and all kinds of other drinks from a well stocked bar. A nice juicy bar burger. Yes, I am off to the island tonight. Now I only hope I can get some work done with all the day dreaming I will be doing today. Ahhhh.....

Bottoms up!

Paradise, huh? Sounds like fun. --Wolf's Rain

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

As I play hooky from work again today (got to use those vacation days) I look out the picture window into the back yard and see snow flakes ... SNOW FLAKES. What are snow flakes doing blowing around here? Now it is not accumulating anywhere but still snow?

Next weekend I believe they bring in the state Christmas tree. I have always been curious to see then set it up. They probably do it real early in the morning on a Saturday. I am so tempted to show up and watch them do it. I think it could be interesting to watch and take a few pictures. Of course I think hot chocolate might be called for.

So why is the tree being set up so early? Why Lansing has an activity every year called Silver Bells in the City. SignGurl wrote about this last year and I stumbled across her because of it. She had such a lovely post about it too and some nice pictures. She had to leave early before they lit the tree because, I am assuming #1 daughter, had a performance at the local community college. So I showed up one night about midnight and about froze but I got some nice pictures of the tree that Sign later posted.

Silver Bells will never be the same again. Regardless if we ever meet up at a Silver Bell celebration, even though we did not meet at that celebration, for me it will always bring back memories of how we met online and eventually became friends.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Ev'rywhere you go;
Take a look in the five and ten glistening once again
With candy canes and silver lanes aglow.
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Toys in ev'ry store
But the prettiest sight to see is the holly that will be
On your own front door.

A pair of hopalong boots and a pistol that shoots
Is the wish of Barney and Ben;
Dolls that will talk and will go for a walk
Is the hope of Janice and Jen;
And Mom and Dad can hardly wait for school to start again.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Ev'rywhere you go;
There's a tree in the Grand Hotel, one in the park as well,
The sturdy kind that doesn't mind the snow.
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas;
Soon the bells will start,
And the thing that will make them ring is the carol that you sing
Right within your heart. --Johnny Mathis Lyrics (It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas)

The Street that Went Boo

I had a happy halloween yesterday. I spent the day working on the garage and made some real progress. I went to the store to get some stuff to help organize and did not have much luck. I went back later on (I think I was looking for excuses to take a break or something) got some Great Stuff. What fun that was. I aimed it at a spot the was where the mice were getting in and fired. It was fun watching all the foam build up and take shape. Now the mice will probably just tunnel in anyway but if that is the case I am ready with another plan. I like to have a fall back plan for things.

As usual, two steps forward, one step back. I made progress but I also discovered I need to try and move the back wall in a few inches. Looks like someone hit it with a car. I would be one of those someones I guess but it was already bad when I got the place. Should take me a day or two to get that all shored up then I can continue moving forward.

I was changing a lock on the back door of the garage while the whole trick or treat thing was going on. Boy did I hear a ton of kids walking the street in back of me. They really do exist, just not at my place.

I hope you Halloween was much better.
