55Flash Fiction Friday

UPDATE: First I have deleted and re-added the pictures. Hopefully that will fix the problems.

Secondly, that game is over. Ohio played a good game and bested Michigan 14 to 3.

Third it would appear Michigan's coach, LLoyd Carr will be leaving. This is just because it is time to leave not because of losing this game. There is a press conference at 10:00 on Monday and we will see if the rumors are true.

Other than that I am looking to get me one of those commemorative coins they tossed to start the game. It turns out they have not went on sale yet. There are 25,000 of them and will be $20 when they do go on sale. I am so getting me one of those that commemorate both great men, Woody and Bo.

Tomorrow’s the big day.
No matter what,
half the people will hate me.
Everyone will say I’m blind.

The fierce rivalry,
Hard hits,
Late hits,
Long bombs,
Holding,
Out of bounds,

Pass interference,
Penalties,
Close score,
It’s always the same.

Ohio vs Michigan football
The Big House or the Horseshoe,

Nothing better to officiate over.

Sorry no fun ending or strange twists. But this just needed to be done for me at least.

Since I have been a wee little boy growing up in south eastern Michigan I have always been a huge fan of University of Michigan football. The rivalry with Ohio has always been big but it grew so much back in the 70s with the Bo Schembechler, Woody Hayes era. I would pull for Michigan to win all their games before the big game but secretly, I would also pull for Ohio to do the same. You see, I wanted Michigan to win the big game but I also wanted it to be the deciding factor for who went to the Rose Bowl. And I wanted a good game.

Well tomorrow the game is on at the Big House, U of M stadium. No matter who wins it promises to be a good game. I can not wait.

Well lets end with a few pictures. First the Big House.

And now the bobble heads, Bo Schembechler and Woody Hayes. Both of these are a new addition from last year. Woody is courtesy of Crabby and Bo came my way via eBay. Even though both these fine coaches have since passed on, it seemed appropriate to remember them on game day between these fine schools wand what better way then these bobble heads.

Did you post it twice?

Anyway, go Michigan! My ex-boyfriend is up in the southeastern Michigan region, and I spent the better part of the last eighteen months up there "visiting", so I've become a bit of a Michigan fan myself. Enjoy the game! *thumbs up*

I so did post it twice. I made a correction and there are certain things you can not do without it posting a second time. I should have looked. Thank you Smarmoofus.

It will be a fun game, it always is. I hope when you were "visiting" you were able to take in fall sometime. I really think it is a wonderful time of the year in Michigan. Maybe it does not compare to Maine or Vermont, etc. but I would not know having never been there. Spring is not bad either. Thanks for visiting and yes, Go Blue.

By the way, despite all the fierce competition, Woody and Bo were friend. Well maybe not at first when Bo left from under Woody to coach at Michigan. That is why I included both of them in the last picture. It is as it should be.

Years ago whilst on holiday I met some girls who were in the US Air force. They invited me to stay with them at RAF Lakenheath, the US air force base here in England. It was there that I saw my first game of American football and enjoyed every single moment (although I didn't understand it). So I will be there in thought and I will be rooting for Michigan (I have such good friends there).
BTW the pics didn't come up for me so will try later.

"The Game"...Thats all you have to say around here.."The Game"!

..Or as the late great Bob Ufer (Michigan's long-time radio commentator) once said..
"The greatest rivalry in the history of man's inhumanity to man!"

Great Job
Great Pics
Go Blue!!!!!

Thank you Mike. I think it would be more fun as one of the football players but I don't know if I could pull it off.

Queenie, thank you so much. What a great experience for you. You know, and don't tell any one... I love hockey but there are few things I have no idea what is going on like when they are not allowed to touch the puck I do not always understand why. Still, that does no stop that from being my favorite sport followed by College football. As to the friends, hey we seem are a friendly lot. Always room for a new friend. Not sure what is happening with the pictures. I thought maybe since I double posted and deleted on that was the problem. But when I look at it using FireFox (my normal browser from home) and Internet Explorer, I seem to see them. Most peculiar.

Bob Ufer, GMan I loved Bob Ufer. Him and Harry Caray, a famous Cubs announcer. I would watch U of M football on TV but would turn down the sound and listen to the radio. Ufer always made the game even more fun than it already was. Harry Caray, I almost became a Cubs fan because of him. I was about to do it and then he passed on. Holly Cow look at Meechigan go, holly cow. Sorry for the disrespect for both awesome gentleman with that statement.

Mona, up here in Big 10 (the conference of schools Michigan and Ohio are part of) country we take our football and all sports kind of serious. Not everyone does but you can bet there are plenty that do. I will enjoy, thank you.

Woody and Bo. Nothin' better than that. Man oh man, did I love those games. Watching the two of them on the field was a sport all it's own.

Course you know how seriously I take my football. And I live for the Michigan/OSU rivalry game each year. For me it's better than Christmas, Thanksgiving, and my birthday all rolled into one.

Great 55, bro!

GO BUCKS!

Sign aren't they the best. I love the Bo bobblehead but the Woody one is amazing.

Crabby you said a mouth full only I will have to tack on GO BLUE at the end. For me those two were the very game itself. I sure miss those days but I try never to miss THAT GAME. Bring on Saturday!!!

Thank you Snow. I do not know what I am doing yet tomorrow but I know I will have a good time.

Queenie, I am aware of cricket but know nothing of the rules so you are doing better then me. Funny thing, the pictures are not showing up for me when I am at work. Interesting.

Akelamalu, nice 55 especially for your first attempt. Welcome on board. You know, if my team wins I will be very happy, if they lose I will still enjoy the game as long as it is a good game.

Yep today's the big game, can't wait. It's funny tho, lately I've come to realize it's not a matter of life or death if our team loses.
It's just sports and in life's scheme of things(war, health, etc)it's not that high on the list.
I feel sorry for the people who gamble on sports because then it really takes the fun out of it.

Then we have Michigan State/Penn State at 3:30, if MSU wins they will get a good bowl bid.

Have fun today.
I've had my pics not show up like this when I copy/pasted my draft and then republished, happens everytime.

Sophia, soon it will be over for a month than over till next year. Then there is college b'ball and March Madness... It never ends

Susie, you ever show up in these neck of the woods you will be well taken care off, believe you me. I bet G will have a feast. I wonder if he knows how to make food from the India culture?

Lime I was watching it on TV and my team lost ... but I still liked seeing it. How will I face my Ohio friends...???

Rebicmel, it is a fine rivalry only at the moment Michigan is not doing to well.Oh well, maybe next year. You have a great weekend too.

Manny, two of the pictures are of The Big House, an impressive stadium much like The Horseshoe is. I will send you the other pictures which are Bobblehead figurines.

Nick, last I saw UK was not doing to well. I hope you do better than Michigan did. They scored first and never did score again after that. Oh dear, down with only 47 seconds to go. So you are not a UL fan?

Manny, Manny, Manny... I still love you. But we was robbed.

TC, O love my sports especially the Michigan/Ohio game but I never take the games that serious. Truthfully we did something back when I curled for two years. The winner bought drinks for the loser. That is what I would like to do. You can party with the opposition. There are much worse things, like you have pointed out, to worry about and get excited about. The Bucks played a good game, Michigan just did not play a good game and lost because of it. Oh well.

Hahaha. Its funny to see the fanatical following of football. I was just going to tell you "Nice 55." and that its your blog, so to write what you like. But then I started reading all of the comments, and laughing inside. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

BTW, I don't see the pics either, but I checked the source and the code is there. Perhaps it has to do with the fact that there is actual javascript and your picture names have concatenation (+) characters in them. That would tend to make the javascript drop the plus from the name, and the browser would not find the pic.

Woo hoo, Michigan State pulled it off and man, I love the coach. He is so supper. I look forward to him for years to come. Not only is he super on TV and with the press but he also is great about winning always looking for the good parts of how the other team did and he also works with the high schools for recruiting and just with the schools that have all the great players but with all the schools. He makes everyone feel important no matter who you are. How great is that.

Charles thank you so much. I am enjoying it and certainly do not mind the comments anyone makes. Mean comments are one thing but no one has been mean. We are just having fun.

As to the pictures I did two strange things with this. One when I uploaded the pictures I had some justified left, some right and some center and I stored the pictures on blogger itself. I had a lot of problems getting the pictures in place and that probably did not help. Then when I posted I found some problems, edited, and re-posted it. It turns out it was double posted. When someone pointed it out I deleted the first one that was posted. I think somehow that took the pictures with it. Anyway thanks for looking.
