Snow Day

My School district joined about 20 to 25 other school districts in the area and closed today which really surprises me. Now it does not affect me as I do not work for the school system and I do not have any kids. Still it amazes me. The next school district over is open and we are very similar in nature.

Over the weekend we received about 9 inches of snow but it finished snowing by about noon Sunday. What little I was out yesterday people seemed to be doing fine and most of the sidewalks seemed to have been cleared by people. Note the picture below is just for fun. We do not have that much snow but it felt like it when I was clearing the snow away.

Now for this area 9 inches of snow is a lot of snow but certainly not unheard of as we usually can handle 4 to 6 inches no problem. If we were a rural school district I could understand that as plows may not have made it everywhere and there is always the blowing and drifting. Many of the other districts that are also closed are very much rural so that makes sense.

Where I live the roads are still somewhat snow covered although they seem to have been plowed so if you take your time it is no problem getting around. Speaking of plows I have heard one come through twice as I type this. My poor driveway!!! Anyway I get the feeling they should be saving these snow days as I think we are going to see a bit more snow than normal this year. I don't want to see the chilens going to school in July. Oh well, I am sure they will enjoy their extended weekend.

I wonder if I can get the people that shut my district down to call off work for me? Hopefully, if you were affected by this latest storm that blew through the mid west and hit the east seaboard, you faired well. So I think it is time to make snow angels, snow man (people?) and maybe have a quick snowball fight. I bet skiing is outstanding right about now. Anyone up for some hot chocolate? I think I have some of those little marshmallows.

Oh, Barman...

I so need a good snowball fight right now. I really, really do. I wish we could go play in the snow together.

And I'd love some hot chocolate.

As for your video yesterday....

I could handle 9 inches of Klingon no problem.

I like it rough.

Hot Patootie, Bless My Soul

I always had it bad for Q too. I have a thing for smartasses.

But, my love will always belong to Data.

I just watched this weird movie that was part of my grandmother's VHS collection that I inherited and it had Brent Spiner in it and he was BRILLIANT! Of course.

It was called Out to Sea with Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthieu. Hilarious. He played the entertainment director on a cruise ship and he's just so funny.

Michigan schools only get one snow day per year. How insane is that?

Having lived in Texas for most of my life and then being born and raised to the age of 7 in Puerto Rico I have NEVER had a snow day.

Lime we have been getting a bot of the nasty stuff until this storm. I think we got your nice fluffy stuff over the weekend. A mess like you received would have floored me.

Strumpet, a nice snow ball fight would be great. You know I made a snowball and tossed it South West but it did not even make Lake Michigan. I do happen to have a hot chocolate all ready but I need to go shop for those marshmallows. Somehow I could see you an klingons. My fave characters on ST:TNG were Data, Pickard, and of course Q. Oh and thank you so much, Out to Sea is on Tomorrow evening on one of the pay channels I get. I look forward to seeing it.

GAB, thinks are going well and the weather cooperated today so you can not ask for more. I still need to curl up with a nice warm blanket and watch White Christmas. Mmmmmm. Glad the storm missed you. I know you guys have already got a bit of snow.

Sign, one day... ONE DAY? I did not realize that. I thought it was more than that. I think the people involved in this schedule need a dose of reality.

Brighton if you want I will ship a storm your way. I suspect that it may be a disaster as I don't think you guys see all that much snow down there. Can I come and watch as everyone tries to drive on it?

I believe that I shall join you in that hot chocolate. No snow here, just slush. But it’s cold and all the cat wants to do is snuggle with me to keep warm.

Nick that is good to here you only have slush. I know your neck of the woods does not do real well with snow. I would imagine the 9 inches we got would have been a little problematic. Tell you what, lots of hot chocolate, possibly a good movie and, if Alex is willing, maybe I can get to know Alex a little. Of course we all know he has a mind of his own.

Enjoy the movie!

I've been putting these skull-shaped Peeps in my Hot Chocolate. My mug has a pumpkin with fangs on it. It always comes out uber-yummy.

Man, I need a kitty. Really bad. I wish I wasn't allergic. I don't care though, sometimes I think I wouldn't mind my allergic reactions just to have a kitty friend who loves me around the apartment with me.

ONE snow day, that makes no sense!
You guys REALLY got the snow, I don't like snow, how do you drive in it????

Strumpet, way to funny. You take something innocent like hot chocolate and turn it into ... well fun!

Little Wing, I guess we all adjust to where we live. For instance I rarely see bad traffic jams where as certain cities in you State are always real busy and over an hour commute is not unheard of. Here for the most part they get the snow under control. Once everyone has had a chance to drive on the snow they generally do well. We just give a bit more room than normal in case someone slips. You would get the hang of it fairly quickly... as long as you were not riding your motorcycle or one of the high power cars. Just a quick trip to an empty parking lot and you get used to how the car handles.
