Saturday, in the Park

Do you have a favorite movie? Do you have a movie you like that others just think is weird? Well that is the case with me but you know what, I just don't care.

One of my favorite movies is Xanadu. I have seen references to how terrible people think it is just yesterday. It also came up at my brother's house tonight. It seems one of my cousins thought this was a pretty good movie when he was in high school mostly because of Olivia Newton-John. Of course my SIL thinks this is a horrible movie.

For me, yes I really liked Olivia Newton-John and I suppose I still do but it is more than that. I also happen to enjoy the somewhat sappy type of movie. Add in the fact that one of my favorite bands is ELO which was prominently features in this movie and it is a big winner for me. Having Gene Kelly in it too, although odd, was fun too.

Of the 2,499 people that cared to vote for this movie on IMDB, it received an average vote of 4.5 out of 10. So not a lot of people liked it but you know what, maybe I do not care. What is so bad about being different?

Another movie I really enjoy, but I think it is to an obsession is Groundhog Day. At least this one did a little better on IMDB getting 52,917 votes with an average vote of 8.0. Maybe there is hope for me yet.

Kira: In Xanadu, did Kubla Khan a stately pleasure dome decree...
Danny McGuire: "Where Alph, the sacred river, ran through caverns measureless to man, down to a sunless sea." Yes, Xanadu.

I love the James Bond series, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger and Thunderball are probably my favorites.
I can watch them over and over again and even recite dialog.
Amadeus is probably one of my ALL time favorites.

Also a huge ELO fan, Bryan pick up ELO ZOOM tour live DVD. This is basically Jeff LYnne with the original keyboard guy and some ladies playing cello and violin but he kicks ass with some old goodies and the songs from the excellent ZOOM cd.
It was filmed with PBS support and used for fund drives.
It was sad, they had to cancel the tour for lack of interest.

I love ELO. I put 6 songs on my MP3 player recently.

As for Xanadu, it must be something with men your age. My hubby (he's 44) loves it. I can't even watch 5 minutes of it.

My favorite "bad" movie is Purple Rain. I saw it on my 16th birthday (on video) with my best friend. (I have had an obsession with Prince since I was 13). I watch the movie now and laugh because overall it was a terrible movie. I was just moved by the music.

SG, I admit that I had a big thing for ONJ so I do not doubt that is why men at that particular age will have that affect.

I absolutely love "Can't Buy Me Love" with a very young, and very dorky, Patrick Dempsy. I actually own it on DVD--so all of the naysayers can kiss my lucky charm.

Thanks for that info TC. I checked out the CD and I enjoyed the music. I need to check out the DVD. Thanks.

Hey Twar, that is awesome. Keep it up. I am glad to hear it. Gosh I have a bunch of new movies to check out that I either never saw or have forgotton. That will be fun.

Sabatkes I have heard of several of the movies and of course who does not love Caddyshack. I have used several lines in tha movie in different places like "It's in the hole, It's in the hole" or "Be the ball" or "Well, we're waiting!"

Thank you Brigitte.

KB, sounds like an interesting movie from what I looked up but I don't think I have seen it. Boy now I have like 10 movies to see. Good thing it is winter. Maybe I can get in some movies. Your lucky charm ... lol

Roxi, I am not real good with lines in movies. What I place in the blog I usually look up in IMDB. I have some cousins that you would love to meet. If you got together with the three of them I get the feeling you guys would have a blast. I think they are scary as it is however. I can not even imagine what that would be like. By the way, I don't think they need to get drunk to start quoting the movies.

That's not gay, that is just having fun.

I love the movie Highlander. I saw it at the theater and have watched about a million times since. I also religously watched the series.

And talk about recent sappy movies that most people didn't like - Love Actually - the more I watch it the more I like it.

I also love a lot of the 80's movies - Ferris, Weird Science, Breakfast Club, Fast Times etc...but my favorite from back then is Better Off Dead.

Blue, I watched Highlander a little but my brother loved that and watched very much like you did.

I like Love Actually but I have only seen it a few times. With the exception of better off dead which I am not sure I have seen it ... I love those others. I own three of those and would not mind having Wierd Science too. I also like Summer School and many more. Don't know why but it clicked with me. In general we sound very simmular as far as movies go. Thanks for reminding me about the movies. Oh and welcome.
