55Flash Fiction Friday

Oh boy, a rebate check from the government
What ever shall I do with it?
Could it be used to pay for the exploding cost of fuel?
How about the crazy increases in the cost of food?
Or how about other goods
that are going up because of shipping?

I ain't fun being John Q Public
Not much time today but this just came flooding out of me today when I saw a headline on Yahoo that said Bush hopes that the tax rebates will shore up the economy. Who is he kidding. With our dependancy on foreign oil and how outragous the costs are going up, the economy is sunk until Congress and the President find a way to aleviate that. That is if they can. I think, if it was not election year, we should just thow all the bumbs out and give someone else a try.

That seems to be the case everywhere!

They think the people are fools!

:(

Perhaps they are

Or these ones would not be sitting in the chair!

I'm not sure what John Q Public is going to do in these tough times. It's almost to the point where we make the choice of not buying food so we can afford gas to get to work.

Our lives as we once knew them are about to change forever. Air travel will soon become something that only the very wealthy will be able to do. It will be a once in a lifetime thing for others since the airlines cannot afford to keep running so many flights. We will be reminiscing about the good ole days when riding in an airplane was something done often.

*sigh*

Oh, just one of the many, many reasons I take the El.

And now, because I am a student...it's FREE!!

Well, up until the end of the semester.

Then it's gonna suck, cos I gotta start payin' again. But, it's still cheaper than a car.

pffft. we can't even really enjoy these rebates because they aren't coming from a surplus in our nations coffers.

Sorry I have not been posting. I have been swamped trying to get my butt out of town for a few days. Silly me. I will post about it and hopefully put up a 55 and come back on Tuesday once I return.

Mona I think we are fools for putting up with what they are offering. I guess it is the same everywhere.

Sign you are so right. I know me little trip to Kentucky is going to cost me $120 in gas. It is insane. That does not count food, insurance, cable, phone, ... all going up. I do not know what Government will do about these things but I think it is just a matter of time before there is a revolt by the people.

Hi Ciera, yes it sure is. I want to get a new car, maybe a Prius hybrid but the payments ... oye. I can not win and I am doing better that most I would guess.

Strumpet I wish we had better transportation. I used to catch a bus about 2 blocks from home sometimes. Now I have to walk between a half and three quarters of a mile. I know, poor baby! as I am sure you put in that much walking in your sleep. But it might make sense. It would save me a fair amount to just get a bus pass for going into work everyday. For you I would imagine parking would be insane (depending on where you live and go to school) so the El is the only way to go.

Very true Lime, I never thought of it that way.

Jillie, sneak out a few bucks and get a bottle of Bones Farm. hehehe

Jillie, since I eFiled I am suppose to get mine around May 19. Otherwise it was suppose to be July 17 I think. I was in the LAST group to go.

My Mom seems to be doing much better but I have not talked to her for about a week. I think she may have a heart monitor on her now to keep an eye on things to see what is going on with her and her fast pulse (120ish most of the time). If they can solve that I think she will be doing much better. Otherwise I think she is doing OK. I suppose I should call her as her birthday is Saturday and I would rather call early then to forget her birthday.

Happy Birthday tomorrow to Barman's mommy and have an awesome time on your trip!!

Hope your new diet is working out well for you!

Miss you 'round these parts.

I was thinking of taking a nice long walk this weekend, actually!

It's REEEAAAaaalllly relaxing, Barman. It's not as bad as it sounds!!! Seriously!

xoxo

And, yeah, parking around the city can suck my ass.

I only recently payed off all the money I owed the city in parking tickets....and I haven't had a car in five years. That's how much I owed them in parking tickets and that's how much parking around the city SUCKS. It's ridiculous.

But, my bus pass expires on the 10th, so this summer I'll be paying for my busrides. I'm not excited. But, as I said before, if I was payin' for gas it would be way worse, so I can't complain.

Take care, Bardude!!

Oh, bus...El....it's all the CTA....it's all the same pass. I don't know if that's apparent, or not.

Why is it you think Congress and Big Govt must save you?

The economy is in this mess because Americans spend what they don't have. Because they think someone else should fix everything for them. Because they refuse to take responsibility for themselves. Because they refuse to live within their means and save rather than spend.

We've sold our souls to Wal-Mart. And the result is our neighbor is now out of work or making far less because had to save 5 cents on a product, so the production was moved to China or India or wherever.

The cause of all this mess is staring each of us in the face every morning in the mirror. So is the solution.

Stop whining for Govt to save you. Govt never fixes anything...it just masks and prolongs it.
