55Flash Fiction Friday

The plectron sounded
Everyone was suited up and ready
to roll in seconds flat.

The sirens sounded and we
speed
to the scene not even knowing
what we were in for.

This could be our last day on this earth

but all we could think about was

putting our training to use and saving lives.

Color this lame again but I could not think of anything better to write about then the first responders in disasters such at the bridge that just collapsed in Minnesota and that terrible day in September when the twin towers came down. It takes a special person to go against humane nature and rush in to make a difference in the life of someone.

I think we all have a little of that in us but to see how selfless these people are and to see the great risk they put themselves in and especially seeing how they are not seeking all the glory... it is almost breathless to see.

Bryan, what an awesome post.
It came right on the heels of me watching a show about the Swat Teams......
don't you dare call it lame, it represents America!
I have a friend who is headed to Iraq, in the Special Forces, this also makes me think of our military.....
An exceptional post Bryan, sometimes we need to be reminded, which is sad.

Barman, have you seen, "Rescue Me"? I watched it for the first time last night. It's pretty good. On the FX channel I think.

I think you did fine job with your flash 55.

Nothing that reminds us of the selflessness of the emergency services could ever be lame. Great 55.

So NOT lame, dude.

It takes a big heart to use the power of the 55 to pay tribute to the hotties that risk their shit to save the lives of others. Strength, courage and selflessness make them the REAL superheros of our time.

On another note...

I came to cash-in on my two zucchinis.

I agree. It certainly does take a special time of person to be a first responder. It can be extremely dangerous.

I think that’s why when, as a social worker 25 or so years ago when at times I’d be riding with the police, they wanted me to be the first through the door when responding to a report of domestic violence—I was, I think, some sort of shield.

Way to give props to those who most deserve it.

Next year they have open calling for Firefighters, and I'm thinking of putting my film career on the back burner to train to be one. I have that same feeling. I just want to help those in need.

Awesome again.

Little Wing, I guess it just feels like it should be so much more is all. We never think about them until something happens like once my house filled with Carbon Monoxide. They responded and said yep, your have dangerous levels of Carbon Monoxide and then they cleared it out. Simple you but I still appreciated they were there. I have since made sure never to do what caused my house to become toxic ever again.

Gab, I am not sure I could do it. I think I would do what I could if I was there but I do not know that I could go into a burning building.

Lime, they are so worth thinking of and supporting when possible.

Mona if we all could make a little difference it would be a wonderful thing. I love how the people from Minnesota are pulling together.

Isn't that last one awesome. I was taken by a person that then shared it with CNN. Amazing.

Snow, I think they know how people feel. I think the best we can do and give to the cause, regardless if it is Red Cross or to your local emergency team.

Thank you Imp.

Rebicmel, they are so appreciated.

Thank you Snow.

Crabby, no I have not. Oh and I forgot to watch it again over the weekend. It does sound interesting.

Pauline, I guess I just need to stop calling things lame but...

Strumpet, I have not seen any worthy zucchini yet. Let me make a trip to the local farmers market on Tuesday. They just have to be worthy.

Seequine, I did not know until the following morning. Why? Well because I do not get the newspaper and I tend not to watch the news. I usually get most of what I know from my morning radio program.

G-Man, I probably misused that word, but maybe not. Have you ever heard a weather radio go off? It starts off with an alert tone and then goes into the alert. It is something like that. They used it to alert volunteer firement, etc that they need to report in. I also thought that was the sound you heard at a firehouse when the alarm went off to alert them to the event. Now I am not so sure.

No kidding Nick. That must have been a scary thing as when there is a domestic dispute it can violent.

Thank you Flash. Wow that is amazing you would do that.
