Music in my Life

You know earlier in the week I wrote about bad vinyl. I actually had a hard time with that one because, well I love music. Almost all music too. Back in my time, the 70s, there was a lot of music that I loved.

There was my old standby, Chicago. I Am a Man, 25 or 6 to 4, Does Anybody Really Know What Time it is, Mongonucleosis.

Then there was Peter Frampton, Frampton Comes Alive. I love that album. I love the way they made the guitar talk. I believe they were the first to do that. I have a lot of great memories when I hear songs from this album. Ah, college.

Eric Carmen was another favorite. I love All by Myself. Yes, I guess I went through a sad period or two in the 70s.

Manford Manns Earth Band. Love them but there was one song in particular. Blinded by the Light. OK, here is the thing. I worked at a galvanizing plant. I was in the locker room and the light was out so I went and got a lightbulb to get some light back into the room. I mean it was scary enough lit up. I had the radio on which was the norm. Especially when I ran the acid tank I would go crazy without my toons. Anyway, just as I finished screwing in the light the light came on and I just could not see anything because of how bright it was. Of course what was on the radio but Blinded by the Light. What can I say a simple little memory.

Boston and Kansas where a couple of other really big groups for me. I went to see a Boston concert. Yes, fond memories.

Electric Light Orchestra (ELO). Who can forget the Wizard of Oz ruby slipper cover, well at least I can't.

Jethro Tull. What can I say, I like things that are just a little different. I love the flute. Just love Jethro Tull.

Joe Jackson. I went to see him in concert at a very small venue before he was anybody. I was probably within 12 rows of the front. The Romantics were the lead band. I fell in love with Joe Jackson that day. I believe I still have the ticket stub inside the album I bought after that concert.

Oh wow, there are so many more songs and artists that I remember. The 70s, what a great time for me. Graduating from High School, college, drinking and ... good times.

So is it just me or does music play a large part in your life? Is there that certain song, or album, or group that brings back a lot of good, or bad, memories?

By the way, my little tag line today, for some unknown reason, says Wenchy to me, big time. Love you Wenchy, sorry I have not been stopping by as often as I should.

Let the music lift you up, sweetie. –Absolutely Fabulous

I did not like country at all but country has changed and so have I. I do OK with some country now in moderation. Disco, I did not care for at all. I belonged to a group sponsored by a Detroit are Rock Station. Detroit Rockers Engaged in the Abolition of Disco (DREAD). Funny, disco is not so bad now. LOL

Things like Rap however I still can not except especially the stuff with all the killing cops and other type of messages in them (gangster rap?).

Bryan, you could say this post is about "Living In The Past" and lots of "Girl Talk" I suppose.

Sorry! I just couldn't resist. I think just about every memorable event in my life is tied to a piece of music.

Alex and I met listening to Mercy Mercy Me by Robert Palmer. Yes music is a vital part of my life. :)

barman, I love Chicago! I think I have all their albums and have replaced most of them with CDs now. I saw them last year in concert and they can still knock out the tunes. I like country too. I know some people don't like the Dixie Chicks because of their political views but I have seen them in concert 3 times and they put on one hell of a show. Clapton is great in concert too. I'm lucky working at an arena parttime. I get to see all kinds of concerts while I am working. It doesn't pay much but the perks are well worth it!!

Again titles with no artist dang! and if I had these songs oh yeah Id be playing them over and over again. then this am )Oh I had to laugh) came a song I hadnt heard in like forever. Sugar Sugar(is that the title or just some words)and I think that one is by the Archies? And believe it or not Im a big Elvis fan! now Im really home sick.

Country music usually just pisses me off.

OMG! You have brought back so many memories with this one. I loved all of these groups/people. I do have a few foggy spot as some of that was during my hippe days, but most of them are very clear to me. Crap! Now I'm feeling old again.

Suze I suspect if I were to think about it even more I would have tons more examples. It is just that intertwined.

IndiansFan I have all the early albums and some later ones but, to make up for it, I got their big box set. I saw them twice in concert at Pine Knob. This is an outdoor venue where, if you do not have seats, you sit on the lawn. I really enjoyed them. Last year I was so excited. I found a local band that does several Chicago songs (and many more that I love) and they sound so much like Chicago and have a ton of energy. Yes they have a big horn section. Oh, after listening to Ache Breaky Heart over and over and over again one labor day weekend camping it didn't help counties case for me.

Gab I love those songs to. It has been a while since I heard them. Nice. I like Elvis too but I only remember some of his songs unless I hear them.

That is super Sabatkes. I knew this was in August but I could not remember when. Thanks and I will be tuned in barring a problem. Have a great show.

Crabcake, see that, we are bother and sister for sure. Sorry Manny, I am not trying to take any Christmas presents away from you, promise.

Manny, old country just got in my head and hurt. It is not so twangy and repetitive any more, at least to me so I do a little better. I do have a deep dark secret. I have been to a bar with a lighted disco floor back in the 70s at a bar neat Eastern Michigan University (EMU). I was not thrilled about the music because of the pound, pound, pound of the music beat but I loved the dance floor. Not that I could dance however.

Tony, just remember but don't feel old. You are one of the most fun people I know... your not old, trust me. Well there is Roxi too...

I still love all kinds of music. I saw Tim and Faith at the arena on their start of the newest tour and they were really good. The crowd rocked too. We have Tour coming in September. I haven't seen them but I will work it. I hear they have a "no holds barred" mosh pit. I'll let you all know after that!

Indiansfan, that sounds like fun. That would be interesting to see the different groups. Hey I try to keep an open mind. That is how I started listening to Celtic Folk. Well that and there was a girl involved ... but I really do like Celtic Folk now.

Gogo, it should have been. Those were real good times and I love the songs you sang. I am not sure how many people know Boothferry Bridge, or Streets of London or ...

We are in the middle of packing to move for three weeks to allow the work space to be redone. As a result I have found some treasures. I took some cassetes home that I found hopping there are some of your performances. Yes, good times.

Hi Patty_Cake. I have had fun with remembering songs from the past. It sure does bring back memories. I think I need to do just a little more about this sometime soon.
